Catch & Release

CATCH & RELEASE

Catch & Release has been my favorite movie for months and months. It is AWESOME. If you have not seen it, you MUST. It is a dramatic romantic comedy. The movie starts with flowers being delivered to a house for a wedding, where you discover the groom actually died on his Bachelor weekend, and now we are going to watch the bride deal with the consequences of what happened. This movie is AMAZING. It has also really helped me deal with my feelings as I move past David. The images in the movie are gorgeous (filmed in Colorado- Boulder) , and the story is just- it feels real. Jennifer Garner stars, who I have always HATED until THIS MOVIE, which just goes to show how good of a job she does! I totally cried, I laughed, everything in this movie. Her feelings ( if not the story) is totally relatably and you feel it when she feels it. I adore the soundtrack too.

Go see it! Rent it! It's awesome! I bought it and I have watched it at least a dozen times since I got it, and I saw it in the theatre too.

Link to the trailer: (BTW I really don't like the trailer, the movie is way better than the trailer makes it look)

Law School Basketball Game

BASKETBALL GAME

I never posted about the basketball game so here it is!

Our students played against the faculty and alumni of Lincoln Law School, and we won! 82 to 69 I think! Lots of fun! I think I was the loudest cheerer there though. Why don't these people scream for their team?! lol

I also saw my old boss from the Public Defender's Office, which was exciting for me, but I"m pretty sure he had NO idea who I was. Whatever.

HOME FROM THE BALL

Tonight was the Barrister's Ball, or as we like to call it, the Law School Prom. It was my first prom. My first dress, first fancy hair do, fancy make up, nice sit down dinner where I did NOT have to get up every 2 minutes to run around and take pictures, and my first time dancing in public ever.

I found some friends/acquantainces to sit with, and dance with and it was fun and I think I did just fine. More friends would have been better, but I did ok.

Ok, here are pictures.

REALLY AWFUL WEEK

I got my Criminal Law grade back, and I got a C, which is not a passing grade. I had been hoping for a B+. I got a 75, a 70 and another 70 on the essays. I had gotten a B- on the midterm so I was really optimistic about the final before I took it. Only 50% of the class passed the class! 36 people passed out of 75, that's it!

So I flipped out all weekend long, and basically sat at Starbucks for three days straight studying.

What I decided (or rather what I am saying to people, I feel totally unconfidant about this) is that I have already paid tuition for the full semester. Being in law school is all I want to do with my life right now, I want to be a lawyer. So what in the world am I going to do with my life if I don't do that? I am not satisfied with just having a Bachelor's degree, I'm just not. I want a graduate degree, but what on earth would I do if not be a lawyer? What would I tell my family? My siblings don't even KNOW I am repeating my first year, I just never told them; I was too ashamed.

My friend Colette, who is a whiz at Excel and I ran all of the numbers on everything and if I get an 83% on the finals for both TOrts and Contracts I'll get a B- in those courses, and then I'll have to get a C+ in Professional Responsibility (Which is a terrifying prospect) and then my overall gpa will be a 2.34, which is basically the minimum I need to pass first year. So there is hope, technically. It's just very unlikely that I could get grades that high. I mean, it's law school. You work your butt off to get a C. Seriously.

And somehow I am going to get B's. This is so not going to happen. But I am going to try really hard and maybe I will luck out.

This Saturday is the Barrister's Ball, which is basicallly the law school prom. I have never been to a dance before, so I had been REALLY excited to go. I love everybody I go to school with and going as a big group of friends sounded like lots of fun, and I'd get to finally experience the whole prom thing.

THen all this crap happened at school...

I am not excited to go to prom now. Because these two people are probably going together which will just rub in my face how alone and how lonely I am and how much I miss David. I have gone back to crying alot for him. I was good for awhile, like a couple of months! And now, I texted him a few days ago ( no he didn't answer) and I am crying in the car and randomly around town. LIke at Target. Pretty sure I was teary at Target and I KNOW I cried at Starbucks.

And then my ex Matt has been kind of sort of flirting with me, which is confusing. He would not be a good person to get back together with. But then he is my friend and he lets me talk about David and how I feel with him and doesn't get tired of that. So I can't just like stay away from him because he's the only guy friend I really have... AND I trust him. But he's not good with dating stuff.

And then I haven't lost weight in 3 weeks now I think. Today is my weigh in day, but I am pretty sure I haven't lost anything this week either. I am down to a size 14 ( I can universally button the pants, but depending on the cut the 16's look better. But most of the pants are falling off me. Skirts and pants look ok in 14's, shorts and capris I can button but they look RETARDED.

I am on Week 7 on my running program, which is almost the end, YAY! The last two running program days I have had, I have run for 25 minutes straight, no walking! So that's good. BUt my belly is just hanging there still and no pounds are coming off.

I went on a date. Yup. Sort of. Well I did...

My friend Joanna set me up with this guy she knows who is a 3rd year law student at UC Davis/King Hall. "Corn Fed White Boy" is the official description of this young fellow, and I wasn't too sure about him at first- or rather the whole thing in general, being a set-up virgin and all but with some coaching from Kelly and some bitching from Olga, Emily sucked it up and tailgated Jo over to Hoppy Brewing Company for our unofficial date set up thingee.

So I'm not so sure at first about him (attire issues, ahem) but after lookinh at him for awhile and listening to him talk, I am like ok I can do this. He's kinda cute. 1point for you Mr. Date.

He made this terriffic effort of coming over and sitting next to me without prompting (5pts) and started a conversation (5pts) and actually got me to talk, although quite awkwardly because I was nervous (10pts). Then he taught me how to play a beer game where you whack the glass in a particular order, which I think I could actually remember, even now while sober. (20pts Bonus points for making me smile and laugh and blush.)

Then he brought up Mormons. (1pt Emily loves Mormons.) Then he bashed the Mormons. (Minus 20pts Umm...) Then he bashed them some more (Minus 40pts Open mouthed gaping...) then he compared them (the church's power as a whole) to a teacher raping a minor high school student. (Minus 100pts) When I said his comments did not correlate to the people, research or experiences I have had, he said that was because I was not black. (Minus 5,000 pts.)

So let's see, he was up 41 points, and then in the end received a total of 5,160 negative points. Which works out to be -5,119.

Such a shame. He was cute too. Good on paper. Totally my type. And he not only bashed a religion that I personally enjoy very much and am very protective of, but to bash ANYONE's religion for pretty much any reason is a no-no for me. You don't crush other people's beliefs. If perhaps we had already slyly established a mutual dislike, then perhaps this would be ok, to conspire and complain mutually and secretly, but based on what I assume was an increasingly shocked and disgusted look on my face, someone should have told the guy to just stop talking or change the subject, but I was just too stunned.

Then I kind of feel like I may have come off really uptight and snotty because I was being really reserved because I felt really shy and nervous. If he hadn't "gone there" with the religious talk and kept it to non-emotionally charged topics then I probably would have loosened up and flirted and been good. But you know, that's where he's coming from and he's entitled to those views. He probably likes talking about politics and religon and discussing or debating it. But I don't, and that just doesn't work for ME.

But I did it! Props for doing it right? Giant step for Emily here. I talked to a nice boy.

Except that the "nice" boy so offended me that I wanted to physically HURT him and then get up and leave, but you know.... that's not legal.
